Repeat after me, you are more important than your career, your business or what you do for a living.

Running a business isn’t easy. Being a human being isn’t easy. Life isn’t easy.

Sometimes it feels like there is a contest amongst business owners.  Who works the most amount of hours, who missed this pivotal life event because a client needed something, who can check their work email the most during dinner. I’ve fallen into this as well.

There is a myth out there that yes, you can do it all, balance it all, be it all. The work life balance myth. The truth is work/life is just messy. We can read great articles all day long on how to be productive, make lots of money etc. But the reality is, those are things we can master, but I don’t think you ever really master life. Life is way too wily for that. Every day things change. The only constant is us. So making sure we are doing what we want to do every day and being who we want to be is all that really matters.

Once you realize that and take a step back ironically your business, your career and what you do for a living blossoms.

Balancing Act

Earlier this year my Dad was diagnosed with cancer and was in and out of hospitals for over five months. I saw him go from being a healthy vibrant individual to someone who looked like they had aged 20 years. The good news is, he is much better. Balancing that, running a business, everyday life and an influx of new clients was challenging.

So, what did I do?

I worked harder than I’ve ever worked and then I took a vacation. (That picture above is from my trip to Kauai, Hawaii.)

I reevaluated what was important to me personally.

I reevaluated what was important for my business and my staff.

I took a break from social media. (Business and personally.)

I made exercise a priority.

I said goodbye to Cable.

What Happened

The sky didn’t fall in. The opposite in fact.

My business is doing better than ever.

And I’m doing really great.

Try it, see what you think.
